**Scale Types for** **Categorical** **Variables**

The scales for categorical variables are:

1.Nominal Scale – It just puts value in categories. No ordering can be made.

E.g. Do you watch movies: Yes, No?

2. Ordinal Scale- Ordering in categories can be done.

E.g. Which position did you get in the class: First, Second, Third?

**Scale Types for** **Numerical** **Variables**

The numerical variables can be expressed in Interval or Ratio scales.

**Interval scale **expresses the values which are relative. It does not have absolute zero point.

E.g. Outside temperature is 20 deg C.

**Ratio scale** is used for absolute values. These values have zero reference point. E.g. Price of the book is $150.
